Zombie Assault: Resurgence Gameplay Guide

Zombie Assault: Resurgence is a top-down shooter with deep RPG progression, loot, crafting and missions for one to four players.

A top-down shooter with RPG systems

Zombie Assault: Resurgence combines real-time top-down shooting with a character-building layer. You aim, move, manage waves and trigger abilities, while skills, class specialties, equipment and crafting shape how your merc performs between and during missions.

The official gameplay trailer supports the visual description: it shows an elevated camera, multiple mercs, dense enemy groups, projectile effects and large activated abilities. The trailer is visual evidence, not a substitute for exact numerical tooltips.

The mission loop

01

Choose a mission

Advance Story Missions, run Special Operations, or take bounties that direct the next deployment.

02

Build a squad

Play solo or combine Assault, Heavy and Medic roles in online co-op.

03

Fight and extract value

Use weapons, grenades, turrets and abilities to clear infected and secure drops.

04

Improve the merc

Equip, sell, dismantle or craft gear, then spend skill points and refine a specialty.

Assault, Heavy and Medic

Assault is the flexible damage role. Heavy is a durable space-control anchor. Medic restores allies and controls threats through support abilities. Ninja Kiwi’s official class spotlights reinforce those identities close to launch.

No class is labelled mandatory. In solo play, cover your own damage and survival. In co-op, role value changes with team composition and mission pressure. Start with the role whose failure mode you understand: Assault loses tempo, Heavy loses position, and Medic loses recovery windows.

Skills, abilities and equipment

Steam describes six core and six class skills, three activated abilities, and two specialties per class. Dev Diary #19 says the core-skill system was reworked so early points matter more and the fifth point grants a capstone effect. The redesign also makes builds selective instead of letting every merc unlock everything.

The arsenal includes more than 60 primary and secondary weapons, plus armor, grenades and turrets. Drops can be sold, dismantled or used in crafting. Temporary supply-drop Power Weapons create short high-impact decisions during a mission.

Solo and up to four-player co-op

The official store supports solo play and online co-op for up to four. Cross-platform multiplayer expands the potential party pool, while a Ninja Kiwi account is required. Matchmaking quality and population change over time, so use the player-count page as a dated Steam-only signal rather than a complete cross-platform census.

For a first solo run, favor reliable damage, one defensive escape and a weapon you can sustain. In co-op, communicate cooldowns and avoid stacking three players into the same narrow function.
